COOS is a progressive training series to build endurance and strength. Every Saturday morning starting in April, Steady (12-14 mph), Moderate (14-16 mph) and Brisk (16-18 mph) pace groups follow the same route. We did a century (100 miles - our longest) ride last week. This Saturday we are celebrating with a shorter ride, a bakery stop and optional post ride social time. We invite everyone - those who rode with us during the series and newcomers - to join us for the series' final ride for 2024!
#13: We'll start with a mostly flat warm-up, riding to Walmart at the Auburn Supermall. Then we'll head east, gradually climbing towards our rest stop at the Black Diamond Bakery. After the bakery stop, we we'll make our way back to Sumner through Auburn. Optional post ride gathering at the Starbucks at our start location in the Sumner Fred Meyer parking lot.
Riders should register for the pace they intend to start with. It is permissible to join the faster or slower pace, depending on how you are feeling at the start or during the ride, as long as you are signed up for one of the paces. Registration is required and all riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Be at the start location, the east corner of the Sumner Fred Meyer parking lot, ready to ride, no later than 9am.
Washrooms are available at the ride start. Please note that while there is plenty of foot traffic at our start location, property crime can happen in a moment: do not leave bikes or other valuables unattended.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will frequently regroup. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH). We will stop along the way as needed for restrooms/water at miles 9 and 38. Our main stop will be at the famous Black Diamond Bakery at about the half-way point of the ride.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Ride Leaders will not be providing cue sheets. Riders may choose to view the route online, download it to their own devices, and print a cue sheet if desired. (see the Route Map link)
New riders, we are very happy to have you with us! Please read the information found at the "New Riders" link and keep in mind that a helmet is required for all Cascade rides.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
