Alki to Des Moines Marina (Moderate)
Ride Contact
... of 10 spots remaining
Let's meet at the Alki Statue of Liberty. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We'll start by visiting the Lincoln Park troll around mile 4, then ride south from Alki through West Seattle, Burien, and Normandy Park, passing Three Tree Point before continuing to Des Moines Marina. We'll take a break at the marina before heading back to Alki via the Green River Trail and the Duwamish Trail.
Be prepared for a hilly first half, with approximately 2,000 feet of climbing over the first 22 miles. The second half is mostly flat as we follow the trails back toward Alki.
- Mile 3.6: There's a 0.5-mile compact gravel section in Lincoln Park just before the troll. It's suitable for road bikes.
- Mile 23.9: When exiting the Frager Road Trail, please dismount and walk your bike across the bridge over the Green River, as the bridge surface isn't safe to ride on.
Please come prepared for typical Seattle fall conditions. Bring fenders and rain gear if you can to keep yourself and other riders drier. For colder days, bring appropriate warm layers and gloves.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup occasionally. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at miles 20 and 24.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
