Free Group Ride
Port Townsend loop, plus the $4M spur (Steady)
... of 10 spots remaining
Let's meet at the Milo Curry Trailhead (part of the Olympic Discovery Trail, also known locally as the Larry Scott Trail). Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We'll ride a short, steep but very doable set of switchbacks up the brand new, paved, multi-use trail spur (which took about $4M to build) that connects the Larry Scott Trail to the Anderson Lake trail. We'll descend back the way we came and then head north towards Port Townsend, along roadways that will take us north towards Cape George and then east to Fort Worden (of Officer and a Gentlemen fame) out to the lighthouse. We will make a brief rest stop here.
We'll then begin our return, moving through Port Townsend with a coffee stop on Water Street. We'll then head south to the Larry Scott (ODT) trail, back to the start. The Larry Scott trail is a dedicated multi-use, gravel path, which is mostly hardpack with a couple of very short sections crossing gravel farm roads. There are likely to be lots of leaves on the ground and some mud if it's been raining. Roadbikes are generally OK on this path.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will generally stay together and regroup as needed. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms (porta potty) are available at the start, but no water, so pls have your hydration ready to go. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at about mile 19 (Fort Flagler). We’ll also stop for coffee/snacks on Water Street at mile 22.
A working white headlight and red rear tail light (steady mode preferred) are recommended, as we will be riding along the shoulder of some higher speed roadways.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
