Are you ready to learn how to ride in a group? Join us for a small group, slow paced ride on bike paths from West Seattle to Centennial Park (Downtown Seattle).
Let's meet at Jack Block Park, West Seattle. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Are you interested in learning to ride in a group and want to learn more before joining one of the other free Cascade Cycling rides? The route from Jack Block Park to Centennial Park follows designated, off street bike paths where we can enjoy a leisurely pace, learn how to ride with other cyclists in a group, hand signals, and verbal cues to communicate with each other. This ride is intended for beginner group riders, with an intentionally a slow pace to build skills and confidence. We will stop along the route to talk about how to navigate road hazards, like crossing railroad tracks, bike / pedestrian path etiquette while riding in a group, and creating a safe space for all participants to ask questions and to learn together.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will stay together. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH and slower where necessary around crowded bike / walking paths downtown).
Restrooms are available at the start (Jack Block Park). We will stop at Cafe Hagen in Centennial Park for coffee / water, restrooms at the midpoint (mile 7.4). (OPTIONAL) We may also stop for along the waterfront if the group wants to stop to talk about group riding.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
