Ride Contact
... of 15 spots remaining
Join us for a history ride on a 23 -mile route at a Leisurely pace (10-12 mph on flat ground) on the northeast corner of Lake Washington. We will explore some of the history of Kenmore, Bothell, Juanita, and Woodinville. We will see how the land changed throughout history.
Our meeting point is Log Boom Park in Kenmore. Look for the group at the entrance of the parking lot. There are a total of 10 stops on this ride during which the ride leader will tell a story about the local area. There are restrooms at the start and at several places along the route.
We will ride out NE 175th Street and take a right 68th Street to ride in the protected bike lane to St. Edwards State Park for our first stop. It is a bit of a climb, but we will regroup at the top of the hill. Then we will move on to Juanita Beach Park for our second stop. Then we will ride a section of the cross Kirkland Corridor Trail to Totem Lake. We will proceed down the hill on a new section of the Eastrail to St. Michelle Winery at our 15 mile point. There we will have a 10 to 15 min rest stop for food, fluids and restrooms. Make sure you bring a water bottle and snacks with you. We will continue on a portion of the Sammamish River trail which will skirt the edge to Woodinville, then on to the restored wetlands of U of W Bothell. The last part will be a short road ride to Bothell Landing Park. Finally, we will check out the hidden little Red Brick Road Park and then the Willows First Nation Park for our last two stops. The ride will end where we started in Log Boom Park.
The route is mostly on trails and protected bike lanes. There are short segments of road riding. The trails are both paved and nice compacted gravel. It is possible to do this ride on narrow bald tires, but it is recommended that you have a bike with wider tires with some tread.
Please note: due to all the starts/stops, this ride is expected to last around 3.5 hours to 4 hours (estimated finish by 2:00 pm).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
