Let's meet at the Kent Station Parking Garage, inside the first floor near the security box (near the intersection of Ramsay Way & W James St). Free parking is available throughout the garage structure for our weekend ride. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Welcome to another Sunday morning ride! Hopefully, these rides will be recovery for those doing more training oriented rides on Saturdays: they are intended as a low-stress space to help people reach their weekly milestones, socialize, and simply enjoy riding while not necessarily training. In addition to keeping the pace relaxed, these rides will also focus on exploring and supporting fantastic AAPI-owned local businesses at our mid-ride stops.
For this ride, we are heading south out of Kent for a flat, scenic 20-mile loop along the valley floor. We will roll out onto the Green River Trail first before it turns into the Interurban Trail, guiding the peloton into the beautiful, mature tree canopies of Isaac Evans Park and Dykstra Park. These paths closely hug the water, offering fantastic morning shade and beautiful river views to keep the group cool.
From the parks, we will make our way across the flat valley floor to West Valley Highway for our scheduled extended 45-to-60-minute social rest stop at West Hill Deli. This independent, family-owned Filipino diner is an absolute local favorite. Cyclists can refuel with incredible, authentic comfort food options like crispy lumpia, toasted coconut waffles, or hearty breakfast plates featuring sweet longanisa or tocino sausage over garlic fried rice and eggs. They also serve amazing ube pancakes, ube treats, iced lattes, and refreshing calamansi juice to keep us hydrated and cool. We will all take our break together at their casual seating area to relax and socialize.
After our extended stop, we will finish the ride with a quick, dead-flat 4-mile cruise straight north back to the Kent Station garage, riding alongside the open, scenic farm fields that line West Valley Highway.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace (though this route is beautifully flat!), and we will stay together as a unified, drop-free social peloton. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for a quick restroom/water break at the parks around mile 9. We’ll also stop for our main extended break for food, drinks, and restrooms at West Hill Deli at mile 10. Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. Additionally, since wildfire smoke is an unusual weather change that could impact the ride, we will cancel if the local Air Quality Index (AQI) rises above 100. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride. We hope you can join us!
