26th District State Representative Adison Richards rides bikes - and supports legislation that makes our state better for people who bike! Meet him on a short bike ride along Gig Harbor's Cushman Trail and stay for conversation at Kimball Coffeehouse after the ride.
We're planning an "out and back" from Gig Harbor City Hall to the Tacoma Narrows Bridge overpass. We'll head towards the part of the trail along the powerline easement section paralleling highway 16 and then we'll check out the newly created segment through PenMet Parks Recreation Center. Our turnaround will be at the Pacific Northwest themed mini-golf course at the south end of the Recreation Center.
There's plenty of parking at our start location and there's a washroom in nearby Grandview Forest Park. We'll meet near the flagpoles at the front entrance of City Hall. Be there, ready to go, at 9am. We will begin with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Riders do not need to be members of Cascade Bicycle Club to join us, but they must register/sign the on-line waiver prior to ride start time - please create and a free account so you can do this if you are not a member or don't already have an account.
We are going to ride at social/party pace and talk about bike infrastructure, the joy of trails, and more, as we go. There are some hills along this part of the trail, but nothing very steep and we will wait for everyone to catch up and catch their breath.
Recommended items to bring: water and a small snack, a charged cell phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA (transit) card; supplies to fix a flat, a good attitude!
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
