Free Group Ride
Gasworks Park to Alki Coffee Co. (Steady)
Ride Contact
... of 15 spots remaining
Let's meet at the east end of the Gasworks Park lot. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We’ll enjoy a fairly flat right on the Westlake Cycle track, down Bell Street to the Waterfront trail, ending at Alki Coffee Company for your favorite beverage/snack. On the return ride we’ll take the Elliott Bay, Centennial Park and Ship Canal trails for more beautiful scenery.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace but other than that will stay together. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms are available at the start. Other stops are:
Mile 13 - Alki Coffee Co.
Mile 23 - Centennial trail - Water, Restrooms
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!

Event Announcements
Let’s meet at the northwest corner of Densmore Avenue N and N Northlake Way in the recessed area off the Burke-Gilman Trail. This is across the street from the western edge of Gas Works Park, about 1/10 of a mile west of our original starting point. Be sure to pull your bicycle completely off the trail while we assemble. If you’re looking for an address, it’s behind/below the Tableau Software Headquarters building at 1621 North 34th Street.
Be there, ready to go, at 10 a.m.
The restrooms at Gas Works park should be accessible. Please allow a couple of extra minutes to cycle to the new ride start if you plan to use them.
See you tomorrow!
The Gas Works Park Parking lot will likely already be closed to the public on July 3rd as preparations are underway for the July 4th celebration there, meaning we can neither park nor start our ride there. Fortunately there are good alternatives for both, as follows:
RIDE START LOCATION - There are several potential options for our ride start location right along Northlake Way that are just a minute or two by foot or bicycle from the original location at the east end of the Gas Works parking lot. However, it’s not clear just yet which of these options will be accessible to us, so I need another day or two to pinpoint the new ride start location.
PARKING - If you are driving to the start location, please plan to park on the street. Local parking restrictions do not begin until 5 p.m. on July 3rd. Additionally, since July 3 is a federal holiday, the maximum time allowed to park is not in force. You should be able to find parking on Northlake Way or a neighboring street (Northlake Place, Densmore Avenue, Burke Avenue or Meridian Avenue). Please allow ample time to find a parking space and get to the ride start location.
Registered riders will receive an email no later than 6 p.m. Thursday July 2nd with our adjusted ride start location and any other new details. This information will also be posted to the event page.
Thanks for understanding the need for these adjustments. We have a great weather forecast for Friday. I can’t think of a better way to kick off a holiday weekend than with a bicycle ride!
Alki Coffee Co. no longer accepts cash. You do not have to purchase anything there, but if you wish to do so, you’ll need a credit card, debit card, or other form of electronic payment. Our rest stop there will be 20-25 minutes. See you Friday!
