We’ll meet at John Wayne Marina in Sequim. Look for my white Sprinter van—your beacon for the ride. Please arrive early enough to be ready to roll at the listed start time above. A required safety briefing will begin shortly before departure, and all riders must attend.
This is also Janet’s Mentor Ride. Your participation helps support her path toward Cascade Ride Leader certification.

Happy Valley, Lavender & Dungeness Spit is a 37-mile scenic loop that starts and ends at John Wayne Marina, with approximately 1,430 feet of elevation gain. It typically takes a little over 4 hours, depending on pace, regrouping, and conditions.
We'll follow the Olympic Discovery Trail, quiet Happy Valley backroads, Sequim farmland, lavender country, and Dungeness Recreation Area, then return to the start on peaceful rural roads.
This ride takes place just after the Sequim Lavender Festival, when the area is usually still in late bloom and early harvest season. Peak lavender depends on the weather and each farm’s harvest schedule, but we’re hoping to enjoy a few fragrant purple fields along the way!
We’ll regroup frequently to keep the ride together, but cyclists should be comfortable climbing and descending at their own pace. We will observe all posted speed limits on multi-use paths—typically 15 MPH and occasionally 10 MPH—to ensure a safe and respectful ride for everyone.
🌿 Did You Know?
Happy Valley sits south of Sequim, while Dungeness Recreation Area lies to the north—gateway to the remarkable Dungeness Spit, one of the world’s longest natural sand spits. Adventurous hikers can follow Dungeness Spit about 5 miles to the New Dungeness Lighthouse—truly a memorable walk out into the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Sequim’s lavender story took root in the mid-1990s, when local farmers found a creative way to preserve rural farmland and grow a small farm-based visitor economy. Thanks to the area’s sunny, dry Olympic rain-shadow climate, fragrant lavender didn’t just survive here—it flourished!
🌿 Lunch & Restrooms
Please bring your own lunch. We’ll enjoy a relaxed BYOL break at the scenic bluff viewpoint in Dungeness Recreation Area. On clear days, the viewpoint offers sweeping views across the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward Victoria, B.C.
Restrooms are available at the start, Dungeness River Nature Center (10), Dungeness Recreation Area (21), and again at the finish.
🌿 Please bring
