Wally World: Duvall to Tokul Tunnel Gravel Ride (Steady)
Ride Contact
... of 10 spots remaining
Join us for a scenic 38-mile, steady paced gravel ride on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail from Duvall to the Tokul Tunnel and back. I have ridden the route on road tires (28s) but you will be better off if you have wider tires.
Let's meet at Depot Park in Duvall and please be ready to ride by 9:00 am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
The ride is posted as a "Steady" pace which means 12 - 14 mph on flat paved roads. However, since we will be on gravel for almost the entire ride and climbing (or descending) almost continually for the 10 miles between Carnation and the Tokul Tunnel, for this ride the designation of "Steady" implies effort, not speed. The route is over an abandoned railroad right-of-way. Since trains are pretty much limited to grades of less than 2.5%, there are no steep climbs along the route. Our goal is to stay together, but we will regroup if needed.
Restrooms and water are available at the start. Portable toilets are available at several locations along the route. At mile 29 we will stop at Starbucks.
Be sure to bring a spare tube as well as the tools and knowledge to fix a flat - we will stay with you while you fix a flat. Other things to bring: Phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; water and a small snack. The long range forecast for the temperature at rides end to be in the low 80s, so be sure to bring plenty of water. If the roads are wet, please have fenders or plan on riding at the end of the line.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancelation criterion listed in the Weather Status (including rain or high winds) or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
