HISTORY RIDE: We will ride south on the Burke-Gilman Trail to the end of the original 6 miles of trail in Seattle near Dunn Lumber. There, we will turn around and head NE to the end of the original 6 miles of trail near Log Boom Park in Bothell. We will take a quick break at Log Boom before returning to Matthews Beach. A few highlights of the trail's inception and development will be discussed, as well as the noticeable differences of the trail in King County versus Seattle. Finally, we'll discuss the plans for the 50th Year Anniversary at the end of the ride at Matthews Beach.
Route: Come, have fun, converse and enjoy this social bike ride along the Burke Gilman Trail. The terrain is flat.
Pace: Steady Pace
Cue sheets: No cue sheets provided. Stay together ride.
Fenders: If the riding surfaces are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Ride start: We meet at the Matthews Beach parking lot. Please be ready to ride at 11:30 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Note: Water and restrooms are available at the start and Log Boom Park.
Be Prepared: Be prepared if you have a mechanical problem e.g. flat tire or have a rescue plan, e.g. bus pass (ORCA card).
Parking: Free parking at Matthews Beach parking lot.
Weather cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride location.
