Transit Friendly: UW to Magnolia for Coffee (Steady)

... of 10 spots remaining
This route is a greatest‑hits tour of Seattle’s shoreline and hillside views, starting from the UW Light Rail Station. We roll out along the Burke Gilman toward Fremont, follow calm water and rowing shells along the Ship Canal, before climbing gently into Discovery Park. The park delivers classic Pacific Northwest scenery: tall evergreens, open meadows, and glimpses of the Sound that make the effort feel worth it.
From there, we trace the top of the Magnolia Bluffs, where the views stretch wide over Elliott Bay and the Olympics. We’ll pause for a mid‑ride coffee at Uptown Espresso in Magnolia, a perfect reset before dropping down toward the waterfront.
The return takes us along Elliott Bay, with big‑sky water views and the city skyline shifting as we ride. Then it’s a smooth climb through Queen Anne and a relaxed finish back through Eastlake, hugging the shoreline one last time.
Expect a scenic, varied loop with classic Seattle water views, quiet park sections, and a friendly social pace — a beautiful way to spend 20 miles on a bike.
This rides starts at the far south end of Rainier Vista on the UW Campus, across the ramp from the UW Light Rail Station. Paid parking lots are available nearby. Free neighborhood parking is available within quick riding distance. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will stay together on the flats. Restrooms are not available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at Gas Works Park (mile 2) and for coffee/snacks at Uptown Espresso (mile 10).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack.
Note: If it's raining or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, I will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, I won't be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
