🚴♂️💨 RIDE WEST SOUND: Dock to Dock—Spin Kitsap (Moderate)
Ride Contact
... of 10 spots remaining
We’ll gather at the corner of the Hemlock Grove Cafe near the Bremerton Ferry Terminal (see the location map above). Be there, ready to roll, at the time listed above. A required safety briefing will begin before rolling out together. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This Ride West Sound’s Dock to Dock—Spin Kitsap is a 51-mile rolling point-to-point route designed especially for Seattle cyclists, linking the Bremerton and Bainbridge ferry terminals through quiet backroads, forested corridors, shoreline scenery, and classic West Sound terrain. Expect approximately 3,700 feet of climbing—averaging roughly 73 feet of elevation gain per mile—with most of the elevation gain concentrated in the first half of the ride through a steady mix of punchy rollers and sustained grinders before transitioning into faster rolling terrain later on toward Bainbridge Island. While no single climb is massive, the route delivers a steady endurance-style grind with very few long recovery sections early in the ride.
We’ll regroup frequently to keep the ride together, but cyclists should be comfortable climbing and descending at their own pace. Some descents in the first half of the route are fast and punchy, requiring controlled speed, full attention, and safe spacing between cyclists. We’ll also observe posted speed limits on multi-use paths, typically 15 MPH and occasionally 10 MPH, to ensure a safe and respectful ride for all trail users.

🚴 Did You Know?
Kitsap County squeezes in over 250 miles of saltwater shoreline—more than any other county in Washington—thanks to its maze of inlets, peninsulas, and its scenic stretch between Puget Sound and Hood Canal. This route delivers on all of the above.
Restrooms are available at the start, onboard the ferry, and along the route at Chevron/Market (12), Marathon/Market (20), Kitsap Memorial State Park (29), Island Cool Ice Cream (36), and Blackbird Cafe (mile 51). We’ll also pause for a relaxed BYOL lunch break at Kitsap Memorial State Park along the Hood Canal before spinning back toward Poulsbo through the smoother rolling terrain of North Kitsap.

Event Announcements
Riders — thank you for joining today’s Dock to Dock—Spin Kitsap!
What a day to lead: perfect weather, strong company, beautiful West Sound roads, and yes — ice cream well earned.🍦
This ride had some bite. While the full route averaged about 69 feet of climbing per mile, the first half came in closer to 90 feet per mile — with those Kitsap rollers and grinders arriving one after another before lunch. In other words, I did not exactly hand you a casual Sunday cruise. And you all delivered beautifully: steady climbing, clean regrouping, safe riding, and great attitudes from dock to dock. That is what makes leading a ride so rewarding — when the route, the riders, and the day all come together.
I really appreciated the teamwork, patience, and positive energy throughout. Thanks for trusting me to lead you through a strong West Sound day on the bike!

Relive recap:

Pre-ride complete. One final note: this route earns its reputation in the first 30 miles.
While posted as a Moderate ride (14–16 mph), the opening half delivers a relentless series of climbs with very few freebies. The toughest work comes before lunch, and riders should be prepared for sustained effort from the start.
If your idea of fun is rolling terrain with an occasional hill, this may not be your ride. If you're comfortable grinding uphill, recovering on the descents, and doing it again several times, you'll be rewarded with some of the finest roads and scenery in Kitsap County.
Route Update: After yesterday's pre-ride, I've revised the route map to avoid a construction area and address a safety concern. The Ride with GPS map is now updated. Please review the updated route before ride day and make sure you have the latest version loaded on your device.
There is also a short, approximately 100-foot gravel section. It is somewhat rocky and rideable for those comfortable on gravel, but riders who are not comfortable riding it should walk it.
We’ll review these items, along with other route-specific safety considerations, during Sunday’s SMART Talk. Come prepared. The route doesn't negotiate. 🚴♂️⛰️
