🚴♂️ 🚴 🚴♀️💨💨
This Ride West Sound's Viking Grind Loop is a 34-mile hilly rolling route linking Bremerton and Poulsbo through scenic backroads, punchy rollers, forest corridors, and classic Kitsap shoreline views. Expect approximately 2,350 feet of climbing with very few long flat recovery sections. While no single climb is massive, the route delivers a steady rolling grind throughout the day. We’ll regroup frequently to keep the ride together, but riders should be comfortable climbing and descending at their own pace. Some descents are fast and technical, requiring full attention and safe spacing between cyclists.
Restrooms are available onboard the ferry, at the start, and along the route at Port of Brownsville (8), Caffé Cocina in downtown Poulsbo (20), and Lions Park (30). We’ll also take our mid-ride lunch break at Caffé Cocina (menu)—a cyclist-friendly stop known for espresso, savory lunch options, and a relaxed waterfront atmosphere before diving back into the rollers of North Kitsap.
🚴 Did You Know?
Kitsap County contains more saltwater shoreline than any county in Washington State, with a maze of inlets, bays, forested roads, and coastal terrain that make it one of the Pacific Northwest’s hidden gems for road cycling.
Please bring:
* Water and ride nutrition
* Spare tube and flat repair tools
* Phone and photo ID
* Cash or credit card for coffee/snack stops
* Weather-appropriate layers
As always, we’ll ride respectfully and safely around traffic, pedestrians, and fellow trail users. On shared-use paths, posted speed limits (10 or 15 MPH) and courteous riding practices will be observed.
📌 If roads are wet, full fenders with buddy flaps are strongly encouraged to help keep the group comfortable and safe.
📌 If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criteria listed in the Weather Status, or if unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or unexpected events arise, the Ride Leader may cancel the ride.
📌 If canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leaders will not be present at the start location. Please check ride status updates before departing for the ride.
We hope you can join us for a strong day rolling through West Sound! 😅

Event Announcements
Here’s a Relive link showing how today’s ride unfolded across Kitsap’s rolling backroads and shoreline scenery.
What a fantastic day to be out on the bike with such great company and near-perfect riding conditions!
Hope you enjoy the replay — see you on another ride soon!

Frank Diss and I will be carpooling to Bremerton. Frank has room for one more bike.
We will be leaving from the MOHAI parking lot at the south end of Lake Union next to Valley and Terry Streets (https://maps.app.goo.gl/bZBSQFYNK3Wfa8DX9) at 8:15 tomorrow morning. (BTW, the lot is for ADA parking and visitor dropoff, so don't expect to park there.)
Contact Frank at frankdiss@outlook.com if you would like to join the carpool.
🚨 ATTENTION SEATTLE CYCLISTS — Viking Grind Loop 🚨
As of approximately 10 minutes ago, I was notified that tomorrow morning’s 8:35 AM Seattle–Puyallup ferry sailing has been canceled due to urgent mechanical repairs.
I’m sincerely saddened and apologize for the disruption and inconvenience to your ride plans.
Please check the Ride West Sound series page for upcoming rides and future opportunities to ride together.
I hope to ride with you soon!

After a pre-ride of the Viking Grind Loop yesterday, I identified two potential issues and wanted to send along a quick update.
A quick parking correction from me: free all-day parking generally isn’t available in downtown Bremerton on Sundays, as I may have implied earlier. My apologies for the confusion.
For those driving in, a good free option is parking at Evergreen Rotary Park, then riding your bike about 10 minutes over to meet near the ferry terminal.
Here’s the meetup location link again for convenience. 🚴♂️
⚠️ If you’re planning to grab lunch at Caffe Cocina, it would really help both the riders and the café if you could place and pay for your order through the Caffe Cocina app on Saturday for an approximate 11:00 a.m. pickup on Sunday. This should help us stay on schedule for the 1:30 p.m. Bremerton → Seattle ferry.
