Let's meet at the Matthews Beach Park for an afternoon out-and-back ride to Wilmot Gateway Park in Woodinville at a Leisurely pace. This is the second mentored ride for Cascade staff member Emma Wimmer, so please join us to support her efforts to get certified as a Cascade Ride Leader.
Come have fun and enjoy this bike ride from Matthews Beach to Woodinville and back. Our route follows the Burke Gilman Trail north. Then east of Blyth Park in Bothell the ride exits the trail on to Riverside Drive. We will take a short mid-ride restroom/water break at the Wilmot Gateway Park in Woodinville & then return to Matthews Beach. The terrain is fairly flat with some hill climbing on the road section just west of Woodinville.
We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently, especially at the tops of hills and at critical turns.
Fenders: If the roads are wet, come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the rider behind you dry or be the caboose.
Parking: Free parking at Matthews Beach parking lot. Be sure to secure your valuables.
Pace: The pace is leisurely at 10-12 mph.
Food: Bring food or snacks to eat on the ride, there will be no lunch break.
Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms and water at Woodinville at about half way through the route.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
