Please note, this is a Women and Non-binary ride only. WNB rides are only for individuals that identify as a woman or non-binary, including transgender women and cisgender women. Male identifying riders can support this group best by finding other appropriate rides on the Free Group Rides calendar and leaving this space for WNB riders.
Join us for the Cascade Women and Non-Binary Program Spring Ride and social event! We will start at 9:30 a.m. and most likely be back about 12:30. After the ride we will have a lunch available. We encourage all of you to join us and share some social time too.
If you prefer to come to the ride only or just the social event, that would be great, but you must register for the ride if you are intending on riding.
Please be ready to ride at 9:30 a.m. sharp! We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Route: This is a classic loop around the north end of Lake Washington, and has become a favorite of many riders. We start with a warm-up climb on Sandpoint Way and join the Burke Gilman Trail. We will ride around the top half of Lake Washington, then turn off the trail and do a couple of easy climbs with, of course, a picture stop along the water in between. The second climb leads to a nice downhill ride into Kirkland where we will have a restroom and water stop. From Kirkland, we connect up with the 520 trail, stopping at the top of the bridge for a rest, pictures and a jump shot. Ha, don't worry we are not jumping off the bridge! Then over the bridge and hook back up with the Burke Gilman where we cruise back to Cascade.
Pace: The ride speed will be maintained at the low end of the Moderate pace, about 14-15 mph on the flats. We will climb and descend at our own pace and our goal will be to stay together. We will regroup if needed at the top of hills and before any major turns on the route. If you are unsure of your pace, bike handling skills, or are a new rider, please contact the ride leader to determine if this ride would be appropriate.
Start Location: The start location is at the Cascade Bicycle Club. First timers to the club may find it hard to locate us at Magnuson Park, so please allow for a little extra time.
There is parking and restrooms available at the club. Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. If a rider has a mechanical issue, the group will stop to assist the rider. If there is a major mechanical issue preventing a roadside fix, the ride leader will try to ensure the rider has a safe means to return to the start.
Note: This ride will be canceled if there is rain or dangerous weather conditions that affect the safety of the ride. If the ride is canceled, you will receive an email notification. If the ride is canceled more than 2 hours in advance, the ride leaders will not be at the start at 10:00 a.m., but we'll still have the social event at 12:30 p.m.
We hope you can join us!
