Let's meet in the plaza in front of the Pierce County University Place Library. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Coming by car? Parking near the stores and plaza is paid, timed parking (and is also often full). Parking in the garage under the buildings is free and does not have time limits (and there is plenty of it) . Give yourself a bit of extra time to park and get to where we are meeting if you are planning to park in the parking garage.
Start location is also served by Pierce Transit's #2 bus.
The library will be open at our start time and there are washrooms inside.
Ride begins with a warm up loop around Tacoma's North End and then heads south, meandering through Fircrest and around Oakbrook Golf Club neighborhoods on our way to Fort Steilacoom Park. We'll plan for a stop in the park (near the dog park - mile 24ish) for washrooms and snacks. Bring some food as there is none for sale in the park. We'll head to Steilacoom and travel north along the water and then up through University Place back to our start location. Lots of food and drink options (bliss ice cream, coffee, pizza.... ) in the plaza near the library. We'll pick one of them for optional post ride social.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently, after hills and before turns if we are spread out. Route includes a few short trail sections through parks and we will slow down while on those sections.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
