Join us for a 15-20 mile ride at a brisk pace (16-18 mph on the flats) from Blyth Park.
This event is a bicycle hill workout. We'll ride a number of hills in and around Bothell, Kirkland, Kenmore, and Woodinville, and on several of them we will do repeats - multiple times up and down. Riding hills is a great way to build strength, and doing it as a group provides encouragement, motivation, and comradery. It should be fun!
Let's meet at the Blyth Park in Bothell at 12 noon. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. Free parking, restrooms and water are available at the start. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This event is posted as a brisk ride, but it is probably suitable for riders who are accustomed to riding at a moderate pace or faster. Stronger riders can ride the hills faster, while others can ride at their own pace and/or do fewer repeats. We will be sure to regroup after each hill so no one gets left behind.
I'm not posting a route for this ride because the number of repeats that each person does may vary and we may choose to make the ride more or less difficult depending on how the group feels. I'm expecting our total riding distance to be about 15 to 20 miles with 1500 - 2000 feet of elevation gain. Routes may include a local trail with speed limits, typically 15 MPH. Riders must stay within the speed limits.
Bring a spare tube (or two) and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Riders should know how to change a flat, or deal with other minor mechanical issues and carry appropriate tools. Riders must have a backup plan if roadside repairs are not sufficient. Riders should have a charged cell phone to call for a pick-up or other means to find their way home. Please have long fenders if the roads are wet or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
If there is steady rain, unhealthy air quality, ice, snow, or other hazardous riding conditions or unexpected events before the start of the ride, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
