Registration Now Open
... of 20 spots remaining
Let's meet at the east end of the parking lot in Gas Works Park. The steady group should gather to the right of the path into the park. Be there, ready to go at 9:00AM for the required safety briefing. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Riders who sign up for the Steady ride need to check in and start the ride with the Steady Group.
Route: For our final Gas Works...with Coffee! ride of Fall '25 we're staying close to home. We'll explore scenic places in the heart of Seattle: Volunteer Park in Capitol Hill, Marshall Park in Queen Anne, Discovery Park in Magnolia, the Hiram M. Chittenden (Ballard) Locks and Golden Gardens. Our coffee break is at Larsen's Danish Bakery in Ballard/Loyal Heights. Even though this is one of our shortest Gas Works rides, there are four good climbs and several photo stops, so expect this ride to be on the longer side.
Note: We are required to walk our bikes across the locks and through the adjacent Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Gardens. So be prepared for roughly a quarter mile of hike-a-bike.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available at the start/end at Gas Works Park and at Larsen's Bakery (MP 26). There are optional restrooms at Volunteer Park (MP 4) and at the Locks (MP 22).
Pace: We will climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup as needed. We will limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15mph, occasionally 10mph).
If we have a larger group and enough ride leaders, we will split the group into two subgroups: one regular steady (12-14 mph on flats) and one fast climbing steady (14 mph on flats, occasionally higher).
If the group is smaller, we will start as one group, but once a consistent significant gap (i.e. loss of visual contact between the two groups) forms, the float may become either the sweep for the front group or the leader of the leader of the second group, which ever makes the most sense.
Fenders: At this time of year, fenders are recommended! There is a always a chance of rain and/or wet roads in the Pacific Northwest. Check the weather beforehand, dress appropriately and please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Be prepared: Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone, ID, cash and/or credit card, ORCA card, water. You may also want to bring a snack if you don't plan to buy anything to eat at the break.
Weather Cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leaders will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leaders will not be at the start location. Please check your email Sunday morning before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
