Free Group Ride
Gas Works to Edmonds...with Coffee! (Steady)
Registration Now Open
... of 15 spots remaining
Let's meet at the east end of the parking lot in Gas Works Park. The steady group should gather to the right of the path into the park. Be there, ready to go at 9:00AM for the required safety briefing. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Route: This week's Gas Works...with Coffee! ride heads north through Innis Arden, Richmond Beach and Woodway on the way to Edmonds. We'll stop for our coffee break at Shore Pine Coffee on the Edmonds waterfront just south of the Edmonds ferry terminal. After the break we'll do a little climbing around Edmonds, then head south towards Ballard by way of Golden Gardens. We'll have a photo op with Frankie Feetsplinter next to the National Nordic Museum in Ballard, then make our way back to the start via the Burke-Gilman.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available at the start/end at Gas Works Park and at Stone Pine Coffee in Edmonds (mile 16). There is also a restroom at Golden Gardens (mile 37).
Pace: If we have a larger group and enough ride leaders, we will split the group into two subgroups: one regular steady (12-14 mph on flats) and one fast steady (14 mph on flats, occasionally higher). If the group is small enough, we will start as one group, but if a consistent significant gap (i.e. loss of visual contact between the two groups) forms, the float may become the sweep for the front group and the sweep will stay with the second group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup as needed. We will limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15mph, occasionally 10mph).
Fenders: At this time of year, fenders are recommended! There is a always a chance of rain in the Pacific Northwest. Check the weather beforehand, dress appropriately and please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Be prepared: Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone, ID, cash and/or credit card, ORCA card, water. You may also want to bring a snack if you don't plan to buy anything to eat at the break.
Weather Cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leaders will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leaders will not be at the start location. Please check your email Sunday morning before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
