Gas Works Two Lakes Two Bridges...with Coffee! (Steady)
Registration Now Open
... of 10 spots remaining
Let's meet at the east end of the parking lot in Gas Works Park. The steady group should gather to the right of the path into the park. Be there, ready to go at 9:00AM for the required safety briefing. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Route: Our route this week is another loop out to Issaquah. We make our way east and south using the 520 and East Lake Sammamish Trails. We'll take a chance on Issaquah Coffee Co, but if it looks too busy the ride leaders may opt to skip it and stop at Starbucks in Issaquah instead. On the way back we'll climb Newport and then follow the I-90 Trail across Mercer Island. A final jaunt northward through the Central District and Capitol Hill - with one of our favorite descents on Interlaken Drive - brings us back to the University Bridge, the Burke-Gilman Trail, and home.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available at the start/end at Gas Works Park, Marymoor Park (MP 14), and at Issaquah Coffee Co. (MP 26). It's a good idea to plan on arriving at the park early enough to take advantage of the facilities before the safety talk at 9:00 as we plan to depart immediately after the safety talk.
Pace: We will be aiming for the steady range (12-14 MPH on the flats), but the front of the group will be hitting the higher end of that range. We will climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup as needed. We plan to start as one group, but if a consistent significant gap (i.e. loss of visual contact between the two groups) forms, the float may become the sweep for the front group and the sweep will stay with the second group. We will limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15MPH, occasionally 10MPH).
Be prepared: Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone, ID, cash and/or credit card, ORCA card, water. You may also want to bring a snack if you don't plan to buy anything to eat at the break.
There is a always a chance of rain in the Pacific Northwest. Check the weather beforehand, dress appropriately and please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Weather Cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leaders will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leaders will not be at the start location. Please check your email Sunday morning before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
