Fall City to Ames Lake and Red Barn Loop (Moderate)
Registration Now Open
... of 10 spots remaining
Join us for a ride from Fall City on a 34.6 mile route at moderate pace (14-16 mph) through the quiet and scenic Snoqualmie River Valley with a short refreshment stop at the Carnation Farm Stand or Sandy's Espresso in Carnation on the way back. We can take a vote at the Red Barn.
Let's meet under the big tree across the street (335th Pl SE) from the Fall City Post Office. There should be plenty of street parking. Please avoid parking at the post office parking lot. Be ready to ride at 10:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
ROUTE: The ride will begin and end with some rolling climbs on SE Issaquah Fall City Road. Then we're rewarded with some fun descents into mostly flat farmland. We will also ride on a half mile of packed gravel trail around mile 10 to avoid biking on and turning left on a busy road. As we are looping around to the eponymous Red Barn, we have the option to add a little more climbing on an out and back spur to Ames Lake.
PACE: We will be riding at a MODERATE pace (14-16 mph on the flats), slower on the climbs and faster on the descents. We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, but we will regroup as needed near the top of a climb.
RESTROOMS: There are no restrooms at the start, but there has been a portable toilet in the post office parking lot the last few times we rode, and Aroma Coffee is just a block away. We will also stop at mile 13 at Chinook Bend Natural Area for a restroom break if needed.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone, ID, cash and/or credit card, water, and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
