Gas Works to Juanita with Coffee! (Steady)

We meet at the east end of the parking lot in Gas Works Park.  Be there, ready to go at 9:00AM for the required safety briefing.  All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

This is our inaugural "Gas Works...with Coffee!" ride of the Fall '25 season.  The ride starts at Gas Works Park and heads north on a combination of bicycle lanes, cycle tracks and surface streets leading to the top of Perkins.  A fun descent takes us to Kenmore where we follow the Burke-Gilman for a couple of miles before heading south on Juanita.  Some up/down/up/down on Juanita and Holmes Point Drive NE eventually brings us to the Urban Coffee Lounge in Juanita. After the break we'll climb the hill on Market Street, cruise through downtown Kirkland, and then follow Lake Washington Blvd E to the 520 Trail.  Another short stint on the Burke-Gilman brings us back to Gas Works Park.

Porta potties are available at the start/end at Gas Works Park.  There is also a restroom at Urban Coffee Lounge (MP 23).

Shameless plug - We are continuing the Gas Works...with Coffee rides through the weekend before Thanksgiving, weather permitting.  Different routes each week will range from 32 to 50+ miles.

About the pace - We plan to split the steady ride into two subgroups each week, one “regular steady” subgroup staying in the traditional range (12-14 MPH), and one “faster steady” subgroup (14 MPH on the flats, occasionally higher).  We climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup frequently so nobody gets left behind.  We limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15MPH, occasionally 10MPH).

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone, ID, cash and/or credit card, ORCA card, water.  You may also want to bring a snack if you don't plan to buy anything to eat at the break.  

There is a always a chance of rain in the PNW.  Check the weather beforehand, dress appropriately and please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leaders will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leaders will not be at the start location. Please check your email Sunday morning before leaving for the ride.
