Join us for a Double Smile ride: the “smile” of Mercer Island followed by the “smile” of the south Lake Washington loop. Let's meet at the Fergolia Field Public Restrooms (you can park in the Aubrey Davis Park parking lot). Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We will begin by riding counter-clockwise around Mercer Island, through a controlled single lane for a little bit for construction, then take the I-90 trail to the surface streets to continue the ride. We'll get on the Eastrail to Renton, passing the Seahawks training facility, and continue to Gene Coulon Park Playground for a rest stop. If you like you can accompany the ride leader to grab a coffee right by the park at Tra Viet Coffee and Tea at milepost 18.9 (there's no restroom or water there). After the stop we will roll through the Renton Airport, then up to Seward Park where we will stop for a quick restroom and water refill break at milepost 26.4. Before returning to the start, we will stop at the I-90 East Portal Viewpoint to enjoy the view, take photos, and get a group picture together. This is a mentoring ride for a new Ride Leader candidate, please join us for this exciting opportunity to add more fun rides to our Free Group Rides roster!
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup as needed after hill climbs and at major turns.
Restrooms are available at the start.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
