We meet at the east end of the parking lot in Gas Works Park. Be there, ready to go at 9:00AM for the required safety briefing. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
For our final Gas Works...with Coffee! ride of Fall '25 we're staying close to home. We'll explore scenic places in the heart of Seattle: Volunteer Park in Capitol Hill, Marshall Park in Queen Anne, Discovery Park in Magnolia, the Hiram M. Chittenden (Ballard) Locks and Golden Gardens. Our coffee break is at Larsen's Danish Bakery in Ballard/Loyal Heights. Even though this is one of our shortest Gas Works rides, there are four good climbs and several photo stops, so expect this ride to be on the longer side.
Note: We are required to walk our bikes across the locks and through the adjacent Carl S. English Jr. Botanical Gardens. So be prepared for roughly a quarter mile of hike-a-bike.
Bathrooms are available at the start/end at Gas Works Park and at Larsen's Bakery (MP 26). There are optional restrooms at Volunteer Park (MP 4) and at the Locks (MP 22).
About the pace - We plan to split the moderate ride into two subgroups each week, one “regular moderate” subgroup staying in the traditional range (14-16 MPH), and one “faster moderate” subgroup (16 MPH on the flats, occasionally higher). We climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup frequently so nobody gets left behind. We limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15MPH, occasionally 10MPH).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone, ID, cash and/or credit card, ORCA card, water. You may also want to bring a snack if you don't plan to buy anything to eat at the break.
There is a always a chance of rain in the PNW. Check the weather beforehand, dress appropriately and please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leaders will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leaders will not be at the start location. Please check your email Sunday morning before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
