We meet at the east end of the parking lot in Gas Works Park. Be there, ready to go at 9:00AM for the required safety briefing. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This will be one of the longer Gas Works...with Coffee! rides this fall, taking us from Gas Works all the way out to Issaquah for coffee and to see Jakob Two Trees. The outbound route uses the length of the 520 Trail to Redmond then makes its way south along the west side of Lake Sammamish to Issaquah where we'll visit Jakob. Our coffee break is at Starbucks in Issaquah. Then it's homeward via Newport Way and a portion of the I-90 Trail to Beaux Arts Village, Bellevue and Medina. A final stint west across the 520 Bridge to the Burke-Gilman takes us back to Gas Works.
Bathrooms are available at the start/end at Gas Works Park, at Marymoor Park (MP 14) and at Starbucks (MP 30).
Shameless plug - We're continuing the Gas Works...with Coffee rides through the weekend before Thanksgiving, weather permitting. Different routes each week will range from 32 to 50+ miles.
About the pace - We plan to split the moderate ride into two subgroups each week, one “regular moderate” subgroup staying in the traditional range (14-16 MPH), and one “faster moderate” subgroup (16 MPH on the flats, occasionally higher). We climb and descend hills at our own pace and regroup frequently so nobody gets left behind. We limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15MPH, occasionally 10MPH).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone, ID, cash and/or credit card, ORCA card, water. You may also want to bring a snack if you don't plan to buy anything to eat at the break.
There is a always a chance of rain in the PNW. Check the weather beforehand, dress appropriately and please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leaders will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leaders will not be at the start location. Please check your email Sunday morning before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
