Let's meet at the Lynnwood Transit Station on the Northeast side next to the bike lockers and bathrooms. Be there, ready to go at the time listed. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate. Please note: Parking at the transit station may fill up; parking on the top floor may be possible. (Don't drive into the structure with a bike on your roof!) The next closest parking would be on 48th Ave W.
We will ride from Lynnwood Transit station to Rainer Beach transit station with the intent to take the light rail back to Lynnwood. There are nice views along the way of Lake Ballinger, Echo Lake, Bitter Lake, Green Lake, Lake Union, Puget Sound, Lake Washington, the Seattle Waterfront and the mountains. This ride mostly goes on dedicated bike trails, protected bike lanes (including the new Seattle Waterfront bike path) and streets closed to local traffic only, but there are spans on some streets and several places on this route are exceptionally busy with many busy road crossings at stop signs and traffic lights.
We will have a short stop at Gas Works Park for a bathroom break and the view at mile 15. We will stop for lunch on top of Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center at mile 19.8 with food available at multiple locations within the Armory or you can bring your own food. There will be a very short view stop at mile 25.3 for Lake Washington and a 3rd bathroom stop at Jefferson Park at mile 27.9. Please note the route time as there are many stop lights and includes the return on light rail to the Lynnwood Transit Station.
If you ride the light rail back, then you must stand with your bike or be able to hang your bicycle from the bike hooks available inside the rail cars. A short bungee cord can help stabilize the bike during the ride from Rainier Beach transit station to Lynnwood. The Ride with GPS route ends at Rainier Beach transit station.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup often as this route has many turns and busy parts. We'll also limit our speed to multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Bring cash, credit or debit cards to pay for your light rail ticket return. Or buy a ticket on your phone with the Transit GO ticket app. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the weather status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
