Gas Works to North Lake Loop - Hills before PIE (Steady)
Registration Now Open
... of 10 spots remaining
Come, have fun, converse and enjoy this social bike ride along the Burke Gilman Trail, the 520 trail, and city streets in Kirkland and Juanita with a stop for pie at the North Shore Senior Center (NSCC) in Bothell.
NSCC offers a variety of homemade pies (and cookies and brownies) with whipped or ice cream, sodas and coffee are usually available for riders to purchase at a reasonable price. Please note: purchases may be with cash (small bills please), charge or debit cards (plastic purchases are a minimum of $1.00). We will be there for about 30 minutes, use the restrooms if needed and then continue around the lake with all the steeper hills behind us.
More Social: After we return to Gas Works Park, the official Cascade ride will be done, but let me know anytime before the end of the ride if you'd like to ride over to Fremont for a late lunch.
Ride start: We will meet at the east end of the Gas Works Park parking lot. Please be ready to ride at 10:00 AM. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Route: Starting at Gas Works Park, we will ride counterclockwise around the lake and earn our pie by attacking the 520 trail and the hills of Kirkland and Juanita before our pie stop at the NSCC.
Restrooms: Restrooms and water are available at the start, at the Kirkland Marina Park (mile 10), and at the North Shore Senior Center (mile 16).
Pace: Steady (12-14 mph) on the flats, faster on the downhills, but this ride leader will be SLOW on the climbs, so you may be waiting for me at the top of each climb.
Fenders: If the riding surfaces are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Be Prepared: Be prepared if you have a mechanical problem e.g. flat tire or have a rescue plan, e.g. bus pass (ORCA card).
Parking: Free parking at Gas Works Park parking lot.
Weather cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride location.
