Let's meet at the restrooms adjacent to the parking area in Jack Block Park in West Seattle for a leisurely-paced out and back ride to South Park. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. Be there ready to go at the time listed above. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
South Park is a neighborhood on the southern edge of Seattle. We'll ride near the Duwamish Waterway, where we will see recent flood-control efforts made in this low-lying area. We'll see the taltalucid Park and Shoreline Habitat and ride past the Duwamish Waterway Park. Arriving in South Park, we'll make a coffee stop before returning to the start.
The leisurely pace is chosen to make this ride attractive to riders who want an introduction to group riding on a bike trail/path, or for the somewhat more experienced who want a refresher. The route is almost entirely on the Alki and Duwamish bike trails/paths.
This is a flat ride. We will climb and descend the minor hills at our own pace, and we will stay together.
Restrooms and water are available at the start and at the coffee stop.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
