Great Scott! Thursday Social – NE Neighbors (Leisurely)

The Great Scott! Series

Explore Seattle's back streets at a comfortable pace with a sociable crowd. Every Thursday, a regular bunch of old friends and a curious bunch of new friends ride as far as evening light permits, venturing places seldom seen via routes seldom taken. We won't go looking for a challenge (we'll never ride the Counterbalance), but neither do we avoid one; we'll gradually top a hill or two and savor the view along the way. Bring money for refreshments after the ride. Heavy rain means we eat early.

This Week's Ride

This week we'll start a little earlier and explore the North Seattle neighborhoods of Hawthorne Hills, View Ridge and Wedgwood, with different out and back routes through the UW campus. See link below for details. Yes, it includes some significant hills but we will wait at the top! Future rides will range from about 12 to 18 miles with varying elevation gains, depending on the length of daylight and ride leader's whims:-)

Please be at the east end of Gas Works parking lot ready to ride at 6:00pm. We will start with a required pre-ride safety briefing, and ride when that is done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

For Every Ride...

Great Scott rides often include in-city routes that may require you to WALK your bike if we encounter pedestrians in bike restricted areas or have a more challenging short gravel section. Please be prepared.

Summer parking at Gas Works is challenging; street parking is available across N. Northlake Way or on local side streets; allow extra time! Carry a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. If biking home after the ride please be sure to have front and rear lights. Always bring your sense of humor and patience; this IS a Great Scott ride:-)

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.

After the Ride...

Please plan on joining us for a SOCIAL near Gas Works! We'll be meeting at a location within easy biking distance to enjoy food, drinks and a chance to visit. The specific location will be announced at the ride start; don't forget a bike lock and lights if you plan to join.
