Free Group Ride
Sunny Sunday Seattle Silly Hilly (Brisk)
Event has already happened.
... of 10 spots remaining
Let's meet at the 60 Acres Park south parking lot by the porta potties. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Sunday promises to be an incredible weather day. Let's get out and see this world-class city, ride along the water a lot, go on a couple ferry rides, and complete a hot weather version of Cascade's Bainbridge Island "Chilly Hilly" loop. It will get up to 85 degrees with full sun, so please prepare with proper hydration, nutrition, and sun protection.
Speaking of ferry rides, boats leave each way every 45-55 minutes. Technically, this is not a completely free group ride. Price for the ferry is $11.25 roundtrip for adults 19-64, $6.10 for adults 65 and older, and free for 18 and under. I'm not sure exactly which ferry we'll make--depends on our speed and stops, but here are links with more information....
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup occasionally. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH). Near the end of the route, there's a 1.7 mile section on the Kirkland Corridor trail, which is hard-packed dirt (fine for a road bike).
Restrooms are available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water every 20 miles or so. The ferry rides to and from Bainbridge Island will also be a chance to rest in the shade and refuel.
A working white headlight and red rear tail light (steady mode preferred) are recommended.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and snacks.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
