We'll meet at the free parking lot at the Diamond Point Road Trailhead, just off U.S. Highway 101 near its junction with Diamond Point Road—a key access point to the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT). Look for my white Sprinter van—your beacon for the ride. Be there, ready to go, at the time listed above. We will begin with a required safety briefing and roll out once that's complete. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Join us for a scenic 49-mile ride with 2,075 feet of elevation gain, tracing some of the Olympic Peninsula’s most delightful paths. We’ll pause briefly at Troll Haven—a hidden spot that surprises first-timers and sparks a few laughs. Then it’s on to one of the Olympic Discovery Trail’s most scenic stretches: forested curves, smooth pavement, peaks to the left, and the Strait to the right—a front-row seat to Northwest beauty. After a welcome lunch stop at Rainshadow Café (mile 16), we’ll head toward the windswept views of Dungeness Spit (mile 25)—and then spin back to where we started.
This is a moderate-paced ride (14–16 mph on flats) with frequent regrouping to keep the group connected and give everyone a chance to enjoy the surroundings. Terrain includes light to moderate climbs and quiet rural roads.
This 49-mile loop will take about five hours, though the duration may be shorter. We will stop at all restroom locations: the start, Rainshadow Café (mile 16), Dungeness Rec Area (mile 25), John Wayne Marina (mile 41), and the finish (mile 49).
Bonus Fun Fact
John Wayne Marina in Sequim, Washington, is named after the legendary actor himself. The land was donated by the Wayne family, honoring his vision to create a marina in scenic Sequim Bay—waters he often explored aboard his yacht, Wild Goose. Today, the marina offers guest and permanent moorage, a restaurant, showers, laundry, and event facilities, making it a popular stop for boaters and cyclists alike.
Please come prepared with water, snacks, lunch, a spare tube, and the necessary tools to repair a flat tire. Bring your phone, ID, and either cash or a credit card. If roads are wet, full fenders are required or you may be asked to ride at the back. Plan ahead and ride ready!
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride, and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!

Event Announcements
Good morning, Riders!
Tomorrow we roll out for a scenic 49-mile Ride West Sound adventure: Trolls, Olympic Discovery Trail & Dungeness Spit. After Tuesday’s pre-ride, I made a slight route adjustment to help make things a bit safer and more enjoyable.
If you’d like to buy lunch from the popular Rainshadow Cafe, please call in your order before the ride begins so it’s ready for pickup when we pass by. After collecting our lunches, we’ll ride another nine miles and enjoy them at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
To place your order, call (360) 797-1654 and mention you’re with Cascade Bicycle Club so they can group our orders together. Here is the lunch menu link. Be sure to bring a small bag or pack to carry your lunch. If there’s little to no line, feel free to enjoy a cup of their award-winning coffee on the patio. This message is also copied to the team at Rainshadow Café so they’re in the loop and ready for us.
The forecast below looks very sunny and warm—perfect riding weather! Don’t forget sun protection, water, and whatever else keeps you comfortable on the road.
If you have any questions, I’m happy to help.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Warm regards,
Steven Richardson😁
