**CANCELLED** Memorial Day Ride from Newport Hills - May Creek to South Lake Loop (Strenuous)
Event has been cancelled.
... of 15 spots remaining
Let's meet at the Newport Hills Park and Ride. Be there, ready to go at 9am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This should be a fun and fast ride with some steady training climbs in the first half (McDonald's hill and 140th Ave climb) and a nice lake loop for the second half. The first half of the ride also features rolling foothills and countryside on May Creek Road before connecting with the Cedar River Trail briefly and climbing up into Fairwood. After making our way through downtown Renton, the second half will be a familiar counterclockwise loop of Lake Washington over the I-90 bridge and through Mercer Island.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup occasionally especially after the 2 biggest climbs. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Restrooms ARE NOT available at the start. We will stop along the way for restrooms at mile 23 and water/restrooms at mile 37. Plan to bring at least enough snacks for the full ride and a good amount of water.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
Hope you can join!
