... of 10 spots remaining
Let's meet at the South Kirkland Park and Ride -- click on "(map)" link under Location to get an exact meeting spot. Be there, ready to pounce at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This week's ride takes us to the West Point Lighthouse in Discovery Park, Seattle, utilizing the SR 520 Trail and Burke-Gilman Trail. The route is approximately 32 miles with around 1,660 feet of elevation gain. You'll enjoy captivating views of Lake Washington, Lake Union, the Seattle skyline (especially from Gas Works Park), and Puget Sound. The route also passes through the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (Ballard Locks); please note that we must walk our bikes while crossing through the Locks area.
We climb and descend hills at our own individual paces and will regroup at the top of major climbs to allow everyone to catch up. On multi-use paths, we will adhere to the legal speed limit (typically 15 mph) or ride slower as conditions and courtesy require. The final descent/ascent to the Lighthouse in Discovery Park is steep (~0.8 miles / up to ~13% grade). Riders who prefer to skip this section can wait at the fork of Discovery Park Blvd and Texas Way, as noted on the route map.
Please be aware there are NO restrooms available at the start location (South Kirkland P&R). We will make planned stops for restrooms and water along the way at Gas Works Park (mile 8.2) and Discovery Park (mile 15.1).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
