Not epic! Not heroic! Join us for a SLOW STEADY (12mph-14mph on flats) ride in the Sammamish Valley! Objective is to get out, turn the cranks for a couple hours, and socialize a little with our fellow bicycle people! We’ll roll 12-13mph on flats and significantly slower on the climbs. Let's meet at 6PM in front of the 192 Brewing Company Lake Trail Taproom at 7324 NE 175th Street Kenmore, WA 98028 (Plenty of parking available on the street.) Please be ready to ride at 6PM. Please arrive early so you can get your bike and self ready to go. We will start with a required safety briefing at 6P, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
We’ll roll south along the Burke-Gilman Trail (BGT) until it transitions to the Sammamish River Trail (SRT) at about mile 2. Then, we’ll transition to Eastrail at mile 6.8 for about a mile and a half of compact gravel passing the lavender fields of the Sammamish Valley. From there we’ll head east for a mile and start a gradual mile-long southbound climb into Redmond. This is the only climb. It is not steep but it can feel a tad long. Once at the top, we’ll regroup, get water, high-five, backslap, and descend back to the valley floor. From there, we’ll continue our trek northbound on the SRT & BGT to the finish.
The 1.5 mile gravel section of Eastrail is compact gravel. Typical road tires should be sufficient. 28mm (or more) wide tires (written on side of tire) might be more comfortable.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace regrouping at top of bigger hills. Otherwise, we will stay together. Restrooms and water ARE available at the start at the park 50 yards away. There are also two optional water/restroom stops along the way where we'll stop if needed.
After the ride we will (optionally) regroup at 192 Brewing (next to parking lot & on the BGT) to visit and for something to drink/eat (we will each pay for our own food/drink.) https://www.192brewing.com
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
