Join us for a 36-mile ride at a Moderate pace (14-16 mph on the flats) from the Lower Woodland - Soccer Field #2 Parking Lot.
This is going to be a really fun ride that highlights some of Seattle's most picturesque areas! We will start by cruising around Green Lake on our way to Ballard where we will descend into Golden Gardens Park. We then get to cross the always interesting Ballard Locks (walking our bikes). After a visit through beautiful Discovery Park and down to the Lighthouse, we get to enjoy the sights of Magnolia as we make our way up to Queen Anne Hill. On upper Queen Anne, we will take a coffee stop, shortly after we will enjoy some panoramic views from the famous Kerry Park along with views from the the lesser known Bhy Kracke Park and 5th & Lynn Park. Next, we will descend into Freemont, take a quick peek at the "original" Troll on our way past Gas Works Park and onto the University of Washington campus to check out the Cherry Blossoms! We will walk our bikes on the UW Campus as appropriate to be safe and courteous. With one final ascent, we will pass by Ravenna Park on our return to Green Lake and Lower Woodland Park. This ride will leave you feeling accomplished after a challenging ride to go along with pictures and memories from some of Seattle's best views!!!
Let's meet at the Lower Woodland - Soccer Field #2 Parking Lot. Be there, ready to go by 10am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Restrooms are not available at the start. We’ll stop for a water / bathroom / rest stop with coffee/snacks at the Macrina Bakery at mile 21.5.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will stay together. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Bring a spare tube (or two) and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Riders should know how to change a flat, or deal with other minor mechanical issues and carry appropriate tools. In the event of separation due to flats or other issues, riders should download the route file into a GPS device or have a cue sheet. Cue sheets are not available at the start. Riders must have a backup plan if roadside repairs are not sufficient. Riders should have a charged cell phone to call for a pick-up or other means to find their way home. Please have long fenders if the roads are wet or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
