Join us for a 44-mile loop around Mason Lake!
With kind permission from the Fraternal Order of Eagles to use their parking lot, you must park in the same row as my white Sprinter van. Please ensure you are on time and ready to ride out at the specified time above. Before moving forward with the rollout, we will begin with the safety briefing. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate in the ride.
We'll set off on SR 106 for a few miles before tackling that challenging ascent known as Trails Road. The ride from there is very rural as we circle Mason and Benson Lakes. We join SR 3 for a mile before returning to the quiet back roads. Lunch will be in Allyn at the scenic Waterfront Park. A coffee kiosk and Big Bubbas Burgers are conveniently located right next to each other.
Note: Once we leave SR 106, there is nothing out there, nothing, so bring whatever you might want to snack on until we get to Allyn.
Mason Lake is a birder's paradise and is open year-round for fishing. This location hosts a rich variety of wildlife, featuring bald eagles, ringed-necked pheasants, mallards, diving ducks, canvasbacks, ruddy ducks, otters, killdeer, and great blue herons. Fish include rainbow trout, largemouth bass, yellow perch, brown bullhead catfish, rock bass, salmon, and northern pikeminnow.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, regroup frequently, and limit our speeds on multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH), ensuring a safe and enjoyable ride for all.
The journey is expected to take approximately four hours, if not shorter. There is no restroom or water at the start, so please plan accordingly. If you need to use the restroom before meeting us, there is a Starbucks (map here) 1.7 miles north of the starting point. Water and restrooms are available at these milestones: Mason Lake County Park (8.0), Fair Harbor-portable restroom (34.9), and Allyn Waterfront Park (38.7).
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride, and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
