Join us for a ride from Gas Works Park in Seattle on a 24.6 mile route at Moderate Pace (14-16 mph on the flats)!
This route starts with a steady elevation gain right out of the gate for roughly 6.5 miles, so we'll get most of the climbing done early. Then it's (mostly) downhill from there. From the Gas Works parking lot, we'll head briefly west then turn north up Stone Way, around the south end of Greenlake and join the Interurban Trail. We'll continue north to 195th in Shoreline then head east across I-5 to descend Perkins Way to Lake Forest Park. Please note: there is some rough pavement on the Perkins Way descent in the area where your speed is likely to be the highest, please descend within your own comfort level. We will do a 'hard' regroup at the bottom at Animal Acres Park so no need to rush this descent. There is a porta-potty there but no water. Afterwards, we will join the nearly flat Burke Gilman Trail and head south along the lake, through the UW and back to Gas Works Park and the finish.
We'll meet at the Gas Works Park parking lot. Please be ready to ride at 9:00am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and our goal will be to regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH).
We will stop along the way for restrooms at ~mile 13, Animal Acres Park in Lake Forest Park where there is a porta-potty. We may OPTIONALLY stop at Mathews Beach Park at mile 17.5 for restrooms and water. Please bring enough water for a 2.5-3 hour total ride time in case we don't stop.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed in the Weather Status or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
