Join us on this upper 1/2 Lake Washington Loop! This will be a mentored ride, come support one of our new leaders to be.
Route: We'll take the Burke Gilman Trail east out of Log Boom Park out to Kirkland Marina Park for a quick restroom stop, along the lake to 520 then cross the lake on the 520 bridge trail. Wind our way through the UW area and head up lake via 35th then back to the Burke-Gilman trail and Log Boom.
Start Location: We meet at Log Boom Park, where restrooms are available.
Safety Briefing: Please be there, ready to ride, at the time noted above. We will start with the required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Parking: Please do not park in the Log Boom parking lot; use the on-street parking on NE 175th St. just east of the park.
Pace: Moderate 14-16 mph on the flats. We'll limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (typically 15 MPH). Climb at your own speed and regroup as needed at the top of hills.
Navigation: The planned route/cue sheet is at the link to the right. The goal is to stay together via regrouping as necessary, but we won’t be able to wait long for anyone substantially off the pace. Please bring navigation aids in case you need to finish on your own, as the ride becomes self-led for those ahead of or behind the group.
Restrooms: Marina Park.
Food: Enjoy your snacks at any of the rest stops; there is no sit-down coffee stop.
Can't make it after all? Please cancel your registration to open spots for other riders. (Click on the green "Register or Cancel" button and follow the prompts.)
Cancellation: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
Flashing Lights: Please reserve high-output flashing/blinking lights for your solo rides; they can distract others on group rides. Setting them to constant-on (non-flashing) or "peloton mode" helps.
Fenders: Please be considerate of other riders' comfort and safety by using full fenders with long, stable mud flaps (ideally 2", but a maximum of 4" from the ground) if rain is possible or the roads are wet. You may still ride without such long fenders and flaps, but if it's wet you will need to ride at the back of the group (behind all bikes with better fenders).
Repairs: Be prepared with the equipment and know-how to take care of your own flats and mechanicals, and a plan for getting back to the start if your bike won't take you there (ORCA card or someone to call). If you have a problem the group may stop briefly to make sure you will be OK on your own, but we may not wait for repairs to be completed.
Hope you can join us!
