Let's meet at the Auburn Fred Meyer in the Northwest parking lot. Be there, ready to go at 10:00 am. Come early if you need to use the restroom, get snacks and drinks...or buy a helmet. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
HOOA! Brrr! be prepared to start in a crisp 35 degrees sunny day. We will have a 3-mile flat warm up as we head out of the city into the SE King County Wilderness. Our first climb is long but gradual, about 500 ft over 7 miles. First restroom break will be at the Lake Morton porta potty (mile 10). The next 15 miles are relatively easy until we stop for a restroom break and refuel at the Tiger Mountain Store (mile 25). Then the Monster climb up and over Tiger Mountain Road, a 550 ft climb in just 2.5 miles. Next destination is the Green River Gorge, where a one-way bridge straddles a 440 ft chasm filled with trees, boulders and waterfalls. After climbing out of the gorge, we will take our long-deserved break at Black Diamond Bakery for treats, refreshments and a restroom (mile 40) Then its a fun downhill ride to the Lake Holmes rollers and slalom-like descent for the crescendo near the end of the ride.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and regroup, otherwise we stay together. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions are icy or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will alter the route, or cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
