Let's meet at Newcastle Beach Park. Restrooms are available at the start. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
NOTE: Construction on Lake Washington Boulevard between I-405 (exit 9) and Newcastle Beach Park might cause a delay in getting to the starting location. Please plan accordingly if you are driving to the start. If you are not familiar with this location, please use Google Maps to locate this.
This is the 2nd in a series of Eastside based climbing rides that I developed in 2023. This ride will take us from Newcastle Beach Park to the summit above the Newcastle Golf Course. Although it is 25 miles, you might feel like you've ridden 40 when we are finished! This will be a good way to help prepare for climbing activities such as the Chilly Hilly, or if you want an alternative to the CHEW (Climbing Hills Everywhere Winter) Series being held on Saturdays.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH). We will stop along the way for restrooms at Newcastle Golf Course at 12 miles, and at Starbucks in Newcastle Commons for Snacks (Mile 15.6). An optional rest stop will be at Lake Boren Park (mile 20).
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; water and a small snack. Please wear cycling attire appropriate for the conditions - Chilly and Wet! Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. Please check for an email that will be sent shortly before 08:00 a.m. We will plan to ride if there is a light drizzle or intermittent showers. However, steady rain and squalls, or if freezing conditions have occurred overnight, the ride will be cancelled. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
