... of 10 spots remaining
Let's meet by the playfield at Golden Gardens Park, right next to the restrooms. Be there, ready to go by 10 am. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Route: We'll be earning our (late) lunch at Un Bien with a 44 mile loop around the north end of Lake Washington starting from Golden Gardens climbing up to Shoreline and using Perkins Lane to connect with the Burke Gilman. Then we'll roll through Bothell, Kirkland and the 520 bridge as usual, but once we're back in Seattle, we'll venture south of Lake Union and use the South Ship Canal Trail to return to Golden Gardens crossing the canal at the Ballard Locks.
Terrain: This is a hilly ride, especially as we climb from Shilshole Bay up to Sunset Hill.
Pace: The pace is steady at 12 to 14 mph. We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, but we will try to stay together and regroup frequently, usually after a long climb. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum.
Fenders: If the roads are wet, please come equipped with fenders long enough to keep the person riding behind you dry or be prepared to ride at the rear of the group.
Restrooms: Restrooms are available at the start, Log Boom Park (mile 15), Marina Park (mile 24), the Museum of History and Industry (mile 36), and the Ballard Locks (mile 41).
Food: Remember to snack and drink at each regroup or rest stop, but our major rest/food stop will be at Un Bien, about a mile from the start/end of the ride.
Mechanical: Be prepared to handle mechanical issues if you have a problem e.g. flat tire. Bring a spare tube, tools, patch kit, pump and skills to fix flats and have a mobile phone and a plan for rescue in case your bike fails. Other things to bring: ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack.
Cue sheets: No cue sheets will be provided. A Ride With GPS map file and a cue sheet are available at the MAP link. If you want a cue sheet, please print it and bring it along or download to your smartphone or device.
Weather cancelation: If there are steady showers, high winds in excess of 15 mph or gusts over 20 mph, or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is canceled at least two hours before the start, the Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride location.
We hope you can join us!
