We will meet at the U Village Parking Garage, north end, upper deck. Use the ramp directly from 49th street, nearest to the Burke Gilman / 30th Ave trail crossing. Be there, ready to go at 9 am sharp for the requisite smart talk and we'll roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This is a fun training ride at a moderate pace. The route is relatively flat - we take the Burke Gilman to Kenmore, then Woodinville Drive down to the wineries. There's a short gravel section on the Woodinville portion of Eastrail before we head south on Willows, through Marymoor and then south again on the Lake Sammamish Trail. We'll get some food and recharge a bit at the Safeway in Issaquah before climbing up and over Newport. After that, it's flat flat flat as we head south on Easttrail (paved this time!) and around the south end of the lake on the regular Lake Washington Loop route. For variety, we'll head up Henderson to 39th and Beacon Hill and then north through town on 19th. Our route finishes with a descent through Interlaken Park and we cut through a corner of the UW campus before we return to U Village. Other stops may be made depending on the needs and wishes of the riders, but we'll aim to be back to the start around 2 pm.
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and regroup immediately thereafter. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH). The Renton section past Boeing will be on the road since that trail is 10mph.
Restrooms are available at the QFC near the start. Potential restrooms stops are 12, 22, 47 and 53. We’ll also stop for coffee/snacks at Safeway in Issaquah, mile 34.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
We hope you can join us!
