Let's meet at the East Side of the War Memorial Park parking lot. Be there, ready to go at 6pm. We will start with a required safety briefing, and roll out when that's done. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
This ride will be a fun loop heading south from West Tacoma along the water through University Place to Steilacoom. We'll then return to our start point along most of the same route, taking a slight detour through Fircrest. We will ride over 19 miles with several hills taking us over 1,100 feet of climbing. This ride will take place at a Moderate pace with an average of 14-16mph on the flats. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH).
We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will occasionally regroup. If you are a stronger rider, there should be opportunity to ride ahead as there are several nice stretches along the climbs and descents to go at your own pace.
Restrooms are not available at the start, but there are several opportunities for restroom stops along Grandview as we work our way through University Place at miles 5 and 12. The ride is designed as a light training ride loop with no formal stop point, but group dynamics could result in scenic stops in either Steilacoom or Chambers Bay.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
I hope you can join us!
