Newport Beach to the Summit! Climbing Focused Eastside Ride #2 (Moderate)

Let's meet at Newcastle Beach Park. Be there, ready to go at the time listed above. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done.  All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.

Restrooms and water are available at the start.

NOTE: Construction on I-405 may cause delays in access to the park. Please plan accordingly if you are driving to the start. 

This is the 2nd in the set of climbing focused rides that I have developed. This ride will take us from Newcastle Beach Park to the summit above the Newcastle Golf Course. Although it is 25 miles, you might feel like you've ridden 40 when we are finished! This will be a good way to help prepare for upcoming climbing events, such as the Port Angeles to Hurricane Ridge ride, coming in August. Please wear attire that is appropriate for the conditions, and you may have to apply sunscreen.

We will climb and descend hills at our own pace, and we will regroup frequently. We'll also limit our speed on any multi-use paths to the legal maximum (usually 15 MPH, occasionally 10 MPH). We will stop along the way for restrooms at Newcastle Golf Course at 12 miles, and at Starbucks in Newcastle Commons for Snacks (Mile 15.6). An optional rest stop will be at Lake Boren Park (mile 20).

Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.

Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. We will plan to ride if there is a light drizzle or intermittent showers. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
