Join us for a scenic loop featuring most of Gig Harbor's Cushman Trail, a fun downhill back into the harbor and the shared use path over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
Be ready to ride at the start time. We'll do introductions and safety reminders before we ride. All riders must attend the safety briefing to participate.
Pace is Moderate - defined by the Club as 14-16 mph on flats without wind. Route has plenty of hills - we will climb and descend at our own paces and will regroup after hills and before turns if we get spread out.
The park and ride where we are meeting USUALLY has plenty of free parking, but it is currently closed for repaving and will likely still be closed on the day of this ride. There is free parking without time limits on the residential streets near the park and ride. There should be spots available on North Skyline Drive. The friendly librarians at the Swasey Branch of the Tacoma Public Library, across the street form the park and ride, told me they do not mind if we use the spots away from the entrance to the library and they invite you all to visit the library!
If the parking lot is still closed, we will gather in front of the temporary fence blocking the driveway into the park and ride on the North Skyline side, across from the library.
No public washrooms at the start - we'll plan to stop at mile 6 for washroom at the trailhead there.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Other things to bring: phone; ID; cash and/or credit card; ORCA card; water and a small snack. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Route is linked to this post. Please download or print yourself a cue sheet if desired.
Today we welcome Ride Leader in training Sarah Wordsworth!
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will cancel the ride and all registered riders will be sent a notification email. If the ride is cancelled at least two hours before the start, Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location. Please check before leaving for the ride.
