Join us for a ride starting from Wilmot Gateway Park in Woodinville on an approximately 45-mile route at a Steady pace (12-14 mph on the flats). This is a route starting on the Eastside that merges hill climbing with some fairly flat terrain using bike trails, bike lanes and largely quiet neighborhood streets.
Now that we are into the New Year of 2022, it is time to get back on (or continue) our riding during this cooler and sometimes more challenging weather. Rides like Chilly Hilly (and more) are not far off. This week we will ride to the Ballard Locks via Fishermen’s Terminal.
Let's meet at the Wilmot Gateway Park by the tables under the pergolas in the park at 9:55 a.m. We will start with a required safety briefing and roll out when that's done. If you miss the briefing you will not be able to ride with the group.
Restrooms and water are available at the start and at the rest stops. Please bring any snacks you may want to have during the ride.
We will have a short rest stop at Kirkland Marina Park at mile 9.3, the second short rest stop at the Ballard Locks at mile 23.9, and Coffee / Snacks at Fremont Starbucks at mile 27. An optional third rest stop will be at mile 34 at Matthews Beach Park.
This ride will be at a Steady pace, which means that to keep up with the group you must be able to maintain a speed of 12-14 MPH for more than four hours on flat terrain with no tailwind. Each rider, however, can climb hills at their own pace, and we will regroup at the top. A downloadable ride map and cue sheet are at the link below. If you don’t have a GPS unit or cell phone guidance, please print a cue sheet so you can navigate the route.
Please send a message if you are unsure if this is a good ride for you or if you have any other questions. Electric-assist bicycles are welcome.
Bring a spare tube and tools to fix a flat, just in case. Please have full fenders if the roads are wet, or you may be asked to ride at the rear of the group.
Note: If weather conditions meet the weather cancellation criterion listed above or if there are unforeseen hazardous riding conditions or other unexpected events, the Ride Leader will post a ride-canceled note in the Comments section below at least two hours prior to the start and Ride Leader(s) will not be at the start location.
We hope you can join us!
