Heading out for some gravel fun! Departing from the North Bend Library we will be heading up the Iron Horse Trail to the top of Snoqualmie Pass, having a coffee break (Red Mountain Coffee), and then heading back down the trail to North Bend.
IMPORTANT (READ CAREFULLY) It's 31.1 miles to the top of Snoqualmie Pass and there are zero water or food stops until you reach the midway point. Bring plenty of water and plenty of food as the way up is a gradual ascent on gravel which takes longer and is more strenuous than one might think.
There is a long dark cold tunnel on the route and a bike light is absolutely essential. It is a good idea to bring a backup light and a light jacket for the tunnel if you get cold easily.
At the start of the ride we will have everyone pair up with someone so that if there is a mechanical issue people will have someone who sticks with them until it is resolved so that the entire group is not waiting behind. The reason for this is that the ride is relatively remote so we don't want people left alone on the trail if they have an issue.
Bring a bike with at least 700x28 tires--a hybrid, cross-bike, or mountain bike all will work.
This ride will be posted as Brisk, because it will be a Brisk "effort," which translates roughly to 10-12 mph at 1-3% grade.
