Vampire Ride: not afraid of the dark! (Brisk)

Join us for a Vampire Ride!

Something different - start riding late at night and finish after midnight. This is the most peaceful time for road biking because there are far fewer cars on the road; you'll feel like the streets were built just for you! The cars which are on the road you can hear coming easier and see sooner (headlights).

If you have never tried it, this will be a fun group and a great opportunity to explore another adventurous side to bicycling!

The vampire name really just points out it is for those not afraid to be up late at night, although the route is designed to travel some dark woods and even weaves through a cemetery!!

Meet at the South Bellevue Park and Ride in the southern-most parking area. We will plan to start riding at 10:00pm so please arrive early to give yourself enough time to get your bike ready and sign in.

What you need:

-Bicycle: fenders will be required if there is a chance of rain OR the roads are wet! Be kind to your fellow riders.

-Headlight: 500 lumen minimum! Yes we want the few cars to see us, but we will also be on some unlit roadways and it will be unsafe with a low-intensity daytime light.

-Tail light

-Appropriate clothing: this will be late at night and temperatures tend to be colder than you may be used to. Consider bringing an extra layer or thicker jacket and full finger gloves. This time of year there is also a good chance there may be some rain.

Please come with the skills and equipment to change a flat tube or fix basic mechanical issues; the group does not stop for mechanicals. Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early in order to meet the people you will ride with, sign the Cascade waiver, and hear the safety briefing. I will be at the ride start rain or shine and will only cancel for unsafe conditions.

*Please pre-register! This makes check in much easier and faster. It will also give us a better idea what paces to ride.

** Remember to have your lights fully charged and able to provide you light for 3-4 hours! You don't want to be stuck halfway through the route without light :)
