Come join us for warm, sunny and hilly Free Group Rides in San Diego. Experience the beautiful Pacific coast, inland desert mountains, Rancho Santa Fe, and the enchanting Elfin Forest. You are not required to ride each day. Today’s route goes through La Jolla, San Diego Bay and Pt Loma (Cabrillo National Monument https://www.nps.gov/cabr/index.htm). There are three challenging hills. The route is 65 miles long and has a total elevation gain of 3600 feet. We'll ride at moderate pace typically at 15-16 mph when on flat terrain, self-pace while riding up hills, and regroup at the top of hills. There are restrooms at Fletcher Cove Park in Solana Beach where we meet to start the ride. Parking is available on South Sierra Avenue immediately south of Fletcher Park. Be certain to bring your own nutrition to eat at our brief stops along the way. Please print a cue sheet from the link if you use one. Be certain to bring spare tubes and equipment to fix a flat if needed.
This ride is available as a RIDE LEADER MENTORING OPPORTUNITY.
Pt Loma entry fee: Pt Loma is a national park which requires a National Parks Pass or a $5 single day entry fee. I have a Senior Pass which allows free entry for 3 adults and me. Please bring your pass if you have one. If you do not have a pass and are over 62, you can get a lifetime pass for $10 (http://store.usgs.gov/pass/index.html). PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU ARE BRINGING A PASS AND I’LL KEEP A COUNT OF RIDERS WITH FREE ADMISSIONS
Weather: It generally is sunny and dry in San Diego during February. The historical high/low temperature in late February is 65/55. In the rare event of rain, the ride leader will not be at the ride start should weather meet the definition for cancellation (showers). Ride cancellation will be announced in the Comments Section at least two (2) hours prior to the ride start.

Local transportation: The day 2 and 3 rides start on South Sierra St, Solana Beach, CA. The day 1 ride starts 35 miles from Solana Beach. We encourage carpooling with rental of vehicles like a minivan that can transport bicycles. Bicycle: Consider shipping your bike. One option is Bikeflight (https://www.bikeflights.com/ship). The local bike shops open at 10am and close at 6pm in the winter. If you wish to rent a bike locally you’ll need to arrive early enough the day before to get from the airport (25 miles) and get fit before they close.
